Budget coaching for where you are right now

Everyone comes to coaching from a different place. Maybe money feels heavy right now. Maybe you just want a clearer picture, or a system that takes less of your time. Below are some of the situations I help with most. You might see yourself in more than one, and that's normal. Wherever you're starting, we work on it together, one step at a time, in English or Spanish.

When money feels overwhelming

Find a starting point when money feels overwhelming

When several things hit at once, like debt, a drop in income, a divorce, a move or a stack of bills, it can be hard to know where to even look. You don't need to have it figured out before we talk. We start by taking stock of where things stand, then decide together what matters most right now, and build a plan you can actually manage. One step, then the next.

What we can work on together

  • Getting everything in one place: what's coming in, what's due, and what's already set aside
  • Deciding what needs attention first and what can wait
  • A realistic spending plan for this season of life, including a plan for any debt you're paying down
  • A short, steady check-in routine so things don't pile up again

Good to know: Coaching helps you organize and plan your money. It doesn't settle or negotiate debt, and it isn't legal, tax or financial advice. If your situation calls for one of those specialists, coaching can sit alongside that help, not replace it.

When finances feel hard to keep organized

Get a clearer picture of your money

If you're never quite sure how much is really available to spend, bills sneak up on you, or “surprise” expenses like car repairs or annual renewals keep throwing you off, you're not bad with money. You just haven't had a simple system yet. We build one gradually, starting small so it's easy to keep up with.

What we can work on together

  • Starting with the accounts you actually use, not every account you've ever opened
  • Spending categories that match your real bills and priorities
  • Setting money aside ahead of time for expenses that don't come every month
  • A simple routine for knowing what's available before you spend
When managing money has become too complicated

Make your money system simpler to live with

Maybe you've built a detailed spreadsheet, a set of rules, or a routine across several accounts, and it works, but it takes more time and energy than it should. That effort shows how much you care. Coaching helps you keep what works and let go of what doesn't. A lot of the relief comes from one shift: from tracking where money went to planning what each dollar needs to do next.

What we can work on together

  • Reviewing your current system to see what's worth keeping
  • Bringing several accounts into one clear plan
  • Replacing manual tracking with a forward-looking spending plan in YNAB
  • A shorter routine that still gives you the detail you want
When spending doesn't reflect what matters most

Spend with more intention, not more guilt

If you sometimes finish a month wondering where the money went, or feel guilty spending on yourself at all, you're not alone. This isn't about cutting out everything you enjoy. It's about noticing your patterns without judgment and deciding ahead of time what you want your money to do, so you can feel good about the choices you make.

What we can work on together

  • Looking at recent spending with curiosity, not criticism
  • Naming what matters most to you, and planning money for it
  • Building flexibility into your plan so one unplanned purchase doesn't undo everything
  • Small check-ins before bigger purchases, so decisions feel clear instead of stressful
When you want to make a good system even better

Make your spending plan work harder for your goals

You already manage your money, and maybe you already use YNAB. Now you want the plan to do more: fund bigger goals, adapt as your priorities change, or get you living on last month's income. Coaching at this stage is about refinement: a second set of eyes, practical adjustments, and accountability as you take things further.

What we can work on together

  • Planning for larger goals and changing priorities
  • Getting a month ahead, so this month's income covers next month's spending
  • Tightening your category structure and review routine
  • Planning together as a couple

Good to know: I coach on spending plans and the YNAB method. I don't give investment, tax or retirement advice.

When you run your own business

Know what your business can spend, save and pay you

Your business bank balance tells you one number. It doesn't tell you what's already promised to rent, software, taxes or your own paycheck. For freelancers, consultants, coaches, tutors, trades and side businesses, a YNAB business budget gives every dollar a job, so you can pay yourself with confidence and stop being caught off guard by tax time or slow months.

What we can work on together

  • A separate business budget, kept apart from your personal one
  • An Owner Pay category that shows what's safe to take
  • Setting aside a share of each payment for quarterly taxes
  • Tracking unpaid invoices and building a buffer for slow months

Good to know: YNAB works best for cash-basis businesses with simple or no payroll and little inventory. It's a budgeting tool, not accounting software, and I'm happy to work alongside your CPA.

Questions

Common questions

Do I need YNAB to work with you?

Yes. Coaching is built around YNAB, so you'll need an active subscription. YNAB's standard free trial is 34 days, and as a YNAB Certified Coach I can extend it by two more months (60 days) for my clients.

Can coaching help if I have debt?

Coaching can help you organize your money around debt payments: seeing everything in one place, choosing a payoff focus, and building a spending plan that makes room for it. I don't negotiate or settle debt, and coaching isn't legal or financial advice. If you need those services, coaching can work alongside them.

What if more than one of these situations sounds like me?

That's common. These aren't categories you have to pick from. They're starting points. On a free call, we'll talk through what's going on and decide what to focus on first.

Do you work with couples?

Yes. A shared money system makes a big difference for couples. Sessions can be just me and you, or me with you and your partner.

Do you offer in-person sessions in Sacramento?

Yes. I offer in-person coaching sessions in the Sacramento area, including Elk Grove, Roseville, Folsom, Davis, and Rancho Cordova. Remote sessions via video call are also available for clients anywhere in California or the US.

Do you coach in Spanish?

Yes. As a bilingual money coach, I work with both English and Spanish speakers.
